Tenets of Faith

The Inspired Word of God – The Bible is the inspired Word of God, revelation gift from God to man. The Bible is the living and infallible Word that is everlasting. It is superior to conscience, reason and good for instruction. (2 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 4:12, 1 Peter 1:23-25, John 8:31-32).

The Trinity – The Godhead is comprised of 3 separate and distinct personalities, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. They are eternally self-existent, self-revealed and function as one entity. Jesus Christ is God manifested in the flesh and is the second member of the Godhead, co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:18-20, John 1:1-5, John 1:10-14, Genesis 1:26).

Man, Fallen and Redeemed – Man was created good and upright, for God said, “ … In the day God created man, He made him in the likeness of God.” But man, by voluntary transgression, fell. His only hope of redemption is in Jesus Christ the Son of God. (Genesis 5:1, Genesis 1:26-28, Genesis 3:1-7, Romans 5:12-21, Hebrews 9:12-15).

Salvation of Man – Man’s only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ (Romans 3:24, John 3:3). On the cross Jesus became sin and sickness, providing both salvation and divine healing for all mankind (Psalm 103:3-4). For by grace we are saved through Faith (Ephesians 2:8). When we believe with our hearts and confess with our mouth that Jesus is the Son of God and that God raised Christ from the dead, salvation is the result (Romans 10:8-10). The inward evidence of salvation is a direct witness of the Spirit and the love of God (Romans 8:16, 1 John 3:18-19, 24). The outward evidence to all men is a life of righteousness and true holiness (Matthew 7:16-20).

Baptism in Water – In observing Water Baptism as commanded in the Scripture we are declaring Christ as Lord and that we have identified with the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. It is a witness to the world that we walk in newness of life with the Savior. (Matthew 28:19, Acts 8:36-39, Acts 10:47-48, Romans 6:4-5).

The Lord’s Supper – The cup and the bread are symbols of the Blood and Body of Jesus Christ. Jesus commanded us as we partake of communion that we do this in remembrance of His work on the cross. (Matthew 26:26-29, Luke 22:14-20, John 6:53-58, 1 Corinthians 11:23-25).

The Promise of the Father – All believers are entitled to and should earnestly seek the promise of the Father, the Baptism in the Holy Spirit according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Comforter, that He (the Holy Spirit) may abide with you forever.” With Him comes the endowment of power for life and service. This wonderful gift of the Holy Spirit is distinct and subsequent to the experience of salvation. (John 14:16-17, Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4-5, 8, Acts 2:38-39).

Evidence of the Holy Spirit – The full infilling of the Holy Spirit for believers is the evidence of a physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. With the infilling of the Spirit comes spiritual power for life to be a witness and a service to Jesus Christ. (Acts 1:4, Acts 2:1-4, Acts 19:2-6, Acts 10:44-46, Galatians 5:16-18).

The Church – The Church is the Body of Christ. Each believer is an integral part of the assembly, the church, the Body. For we being members of the Body of Christ are also individuals in Christ gifted and called for His Glory. (Ephesians 1:22-23, Romans 12:4-5, I Corinthians 12:12)

Total Prosperity – God has provided prosperity for every area of our life through the work that Christ did on the Cross. God said to John through the Holy Spirit, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” (3 John 2, Malachi 3:10-11, Psalm 35:27, Psalm 118:25, Psalm 122:6)

Christ’s Return – All who receive Jesus as Savior have this blessed hope. Jesus is coming again to gather all His Saints to be with Him in Heaven for eternity. (John 14:1-4, 1 Corinthians 15:51-54, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)

The Lake of Fire – Those who have not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will suffer eternal separation from God. The devil and his demons, the beast and the false prophet, and anyone whose name is not found written in the Book of Life shall be cast into the Lake of Fire. This second death is final. (Luke 16:23-31, Revelation 13:8, Revelation 19:20, Revelation 20:10-15)

The Millennial Reign of Christ – Scripture promises the return of our Lord Jesus Christ with His Saints from Heaven to rule and reign for one thousand years on earth. After this there shall be a new Heaven and a new earth (Revelation 20:1-6, Revelation 21:1, 2 Peter 3:13, 2 Thessalonians 1:7)

The Heart of Worship

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Therefore my soul greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him.” (Psalm 28:7)

Worship is a way to express thankfulness to God. At Hillsboro Christian Faith Center (HCFC), we worship by singing, lifting our hands, kneeling, clapping, sometimes shouting for joy, sometimes silent in awe of the presence of God. When we think about how awesome it is that the Creator of the universe loved us enough to send His Son to die for us, our natural response is to worship.

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God , that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12:1)

Some of the ways to offer a living sacrifice are through various forms of worship. Singing: Since we were made in God’s image, He created us to sing. God rejoices over us with singing (Zephaniah 3:17). David sang (II Samuel 22:1). Moses sang (Exodus 15:1). Jesus and the disciples sang (Matthew 26:30). Paul sang (Acts 16:25). God loves to hear your voice, whether you think you sing well or not. Make a joyful noise (Psalm 81:1). At HCFC, we sing songs that come from the truth of the Word, both well-known songs and original songs given to our worship team by the Holy Spirit. Let the lyrics minister to your heart as you bless the Lord with your voice. (Psalm 89:1, Colossians 3:16)

Lifting your Hands & Kneeling: Lifting our hands to God is a Biblical posture of prayer, of surrender and of honor. Just as we bow our hearts when we bow our knees (Psalm 95:6), we lift our hearts to God, when lift our hands (Lamentations 3:41, Psalm 63:4, Psalm 134:2, 1 Timothy 2:8)

We invite you to join us as we celebrate the new life that we have through a personal relationship with God. We encourage you to express your love for God in ways that come directly from your heart.

Lift your heart in worship, and let the peace and presence of God minister to you and to others. WELCOME! Forever praising Him, Lorrie Nelson Music Minister.
